Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

We are currently in the planting and early growing season for crops / hare coursing and any damage to fields at this time, can cause a devastating financial loss for farmers.  Many people do not realise that riding around a field in a 4X4, or on a quad bike, can entirely ruin that crop, for a season.

I have been tasked to be the Rural Crime SPOC (Single Point of Contact) for RBWM, the lead being taken, by the Police Geographic Inspector Mike Darrah.

My task – ‘is to reach out to our rural communities and ensure we improve both visibility and engagement with them’.  As part of this project, I am to put together a list of ‘Key Rural Contacts’ for each of our Neighbourhoods.  If that is you, can you make contact with me, so that I can create a specific contact list and keep in regular contact with you !

We are about to organise rural crime initiatives across the whole of the Thames Valley, starting with the issuing of mobile phones to staff, with WhatsApp access to the ‘RBWM Rural Community WhatsApp group’, which we understand is now up and running.  There are currently 23 members, which we hope to increase.  If you are not already a member, but would like to be part of this group – let me know and I will put you in contact with the Administrator - Rowena.

We hope that membership of this group amongst our rural communities, will grow over the coming weeks and months.  Officers out on patrol will take these phones with them, in order to post relevant WhatsApp messages, for instant circulation.

Attached, is a ‘Farm Security Assessment’ document – similar to the Home Security Assessment, we carry out on domestic properties.  Have a look at it and if you find you have gaps in your security, get back to me, for further advice.

Part of my role, will include linking up with ‘Farm Watch’ and the ‘National Farmers Union’ and to be placed on their circulation lists, so that I can be a central hub for information locally.  If anyone has details of the relevant people for me to make contact with – can they please pass their details to me – and any other relevant groups I need to know about.

AND – I have been tasked with putting together a calendar list of all the rural crime events / shows taking place locally and to add them to our action calendar, so that we can organise participation – again if you can let me have any times, dates / venues and purpose of the event.

I have 588 members in this CountryWatch Group, covering several counties.  We used to have at team at HQ, producing lists of all the rural crimes across the whole of the Thames Valley, which I then circulated to this group.  I felt, a rural crime could be 50 miles away today and here tomorrow – the offenders do travel and prevention – and awareness - is better than cure!  That team is currently not operational, but as rural crime is a very high priority for the new PCC (Police & Crime Commissioner) – Matthew Barber, I understand it will be reinstated shortly.
For more information about the PCC and his involvement in Rural Crime – follow this link:

If you know of anyone not on this circulation list, who would benefit from CountryWatch – please ask them to email me at my email address at the bottom of this message to be added.

FINALLY !  CountryWatch Signs.  We have none at the moment, but I have sought prices from several sign suppliers – so watch this space, if you need signs.

If you have any questions, or need help and support – please email me.
