Courier fraud on School Road Finstock

We are appealing for information following an incident of courier fraud which occurred on School Road, Finstock at approximately 1:45pm on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.

In this case, the victim was contacted by someone claiming to be from their bank. The caller convinced them that their bank account was compromised and instructed them to withdraw a significant amount of money, which would then be “collected” by a courier for safe keeping. Shortly after, a suspect arrived at the victim’s home and took the cash. The suspect then left the area walking down School Road in the direction of the train station.

Courier fraud is a targeted scam often aimed at elderly or vulnerable individuals, using pressure tactics and impersonation to steal money. These scammers can be highly convincing, often claiming to be police officers, bank staff, or fraud investigators.

We are urging anyone who may have seen a suspicious person or vehicle in the area of School Road between 1:30pm and 2:15pm on that day to come forward. If you have doorbell camera, CCTV or dashcam footage, it may be helpful in identifying the suspect.

If you have any information, please contact the police on 101, quoting reference 43250328072.

What is Courier Fraud?

Courier fraud is when a criminal calls you pretending to be a police officer or bank official, telling you there's a problem with your bank account or that your money is at risk. They may then:

  • Ask you to withdraw cash or purchase expensive items, which will be collected by a courier.
  • Tell you to hand over your bank cards or PIN to someone at your door.
  • Ask you to "help with an investigation" by transferring money or giving access to your account.
  • These criminals can sound very convincing, and they often pressure you to act quickly.

    Protect Yourself – and Others

  • The police or your bank will NEVER ask you to withdraw money, hand over bank cards, or share your PIN.
  • Never give personal or financial information to unexpected callers, even if they claim to be from a trusted organisation.
  • If in doubt, hang up, wait 10 minutes, and call the organisation back on a trusted number using a different phone or after dialling a non-emergency number.
  • Install a call blocker or caller ID display on landlines to help screen calls.
  • Report scams to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or via www.actionfraud.police.uk.

  • Look Out for One Another

Courier fraud often targets those who are elderly or living alone. Please:

  • Check in regularly with elderly relatives or neighbours.
  • Share this warning with those who may be less familiar with scams.
  • Join or support your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
  • Working together, we can help prevent these crimes and protect the most vulnerable in our communities.
