ASB Awareness Week: Block of 24 flats closed down in Milton Keynes |
||
It’s Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, and we wanted to throw the spotlight on how officers in Milton Keynes have been #MakingCommunitiesSafer Last month, we closed down a block of flats which had been reported as a hub of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity in Oldbrook. Officers applied for a three-month partial closure order on the block on Milburn Avenue, which contains 24 flats, after carrying out extensive work in the area which included warrants, covert work and speaking to the local community about what they were experiencing. The closure order means that no-one can enter the block except for police and other emergency services, the landlord and authorised building contractors carrying out emergency work. Anyone else who enters will be committing an offence and can be arrested. While it is currently in place for a period of three months, officers can apply for the closure order to be extended if necessary. We continue proactively working in the area to disrupt any criminality associated with the flats and to ensure that no-one returns aside from those who are authorised to. PC Miles Hooper, of Milton Keynes South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The activity within this block was a significant disruption to the lives of those living in the area, and I would like to thank local residents for their patience and support throughout the process of applying for this closure order. “We hope that this order reassures our communities that any kind of anti-social behaviour and criminality which causes disruption and misery to people will not be tolerated by police. We will look into every avenue possible in order to disrupt and put a stop to offending. Supported by Milton Keynes City Council, this closure is an example of how the police, community and council have worked in partnership to achieve a positive result. “I urge people to please keep reporting incidents of anti-social or criminal behaviour in their area to us – we will listen to you and we will take action.” You can report incidents by calling 101 or by using our website. Always call 999 in an emergency. | ||
