Appeal for witnesses to stabbing and affray

Hello Resident,

We are appealing for witnesses to a stabbing and affray in Banbury yesterday, which mercifully was not more serious, to support our ongoing investigation.

Two groups of males armed with weapons were involved in a fight on Hilton Road, at the junction of Park Road, around 6.30pm. 

A teenage boy suffered several stab wounds, but he has been discharged from hospital.

We enacted Section 60 and 34 orders in the Neithrop area of the town to temporarily enhance our officers’ powers to help them prevent further violence. 

These are emergency powers and the threshold to implement them is high; however, we use them to protect our communities. 

We understand this will be concerning for people, but we have made two arrests and still have extra police officers in the area to protect our community. Anyone with questions or concerns is welcome to speak to a uniformed officer.

We believe the incident was isolated to those involved and there is no direct risk to the wider public.

However, we will not tolerate knife crime in Banbury, or anywhere else in the Thames Valley, as carrying a knife puts the holder and others at serious risk so we will be relentless in our pursuit of those involved in such violence.

The Section 60 and 34 orders were enacted at 8.40pm for 12 hours, so they have expired without being extended.
