Shed and garage break-ins |
||
|
We have recently seen an increase in shed and garage break-ins in the area. Thieves are specifically targeting high-value items such as carbon racing bikes, e-bikes and power tools.
Please take a few moments to review the following crime prevention advice to help protect your property:
Secure your shed or garage
Fit good quality closed-shackle padlocks or garage defender locks. Ensure doors and frames are solid and in good condition. Consider installing hinge bolts or security screws to prevent doors being forced open.
Install an alarm
A shed or garage alarm can be an inexpensive but effective deterrent. Even a motion-activated alarm or sensor light can make thieves think twice.
Use CCTV or video doorbells Cameras covering your driveway, garden, garage or shed can help deter offenders and capture evidence if a crime occurs.
Secure bikes inside If storing bikes in a garage or shed, lock them to a ground anchor or strong fixed point using a quality bike lock. Remove quick-release wheels where possible.
Mark your property
Mark tools, bikes and other valuable items with Selecta DNA or forensic marking kits. Record serial numbers, take photographs, and register items online where possible.
Make life difficult for thieves
Avoid leaving tools or ladders outside that could be used to break in. Keep sheds and garages locked at all times, even when you are at home.
If you notice suspicious vehicles or people in your area, please report it to the police. In an emergency, always call 999.
