Thames Valley Police are seeing an increase in keyless vehicle thefts and attempted thefts across the Milton Keynes area. A keyless car theft is when offenders use electronic devices to capture and boost the signal from the key fob inside a home. A second device near the car receives that signal, tricking the vehicle into thinking the key is present. This allows the thieves to unlock, start, and drive the car away within seconds, often silently and without causing damage. How to Protect Your VehicleUse a Faraday pouch/box for all keyless fobs (including spares). Ensure it fully closes and replace if worn.Keep keys away from doors and windows to reduce signal capture.Fit visible physical security such as steering wheel locks or driveway posts.Consider CCTV, video doorbells, and motion lighting.Ask your manufacturer about disabling passive entry or applying software security updates.Report any suspicious behaviour or scanning attempts around vehicles. If a theft or attempt is in progress, call 999. For non‑urgent reports, contact 101 or your local Neighbourhood Team. |
