Increase in patrols following public order incident and armed police in Banbury

Hello Resident, 

We have increased our patrols in Banbury today following a public order incident and armed deployment last night. 

We were called to reports of a group of men with weapons outside The Musketeer pub on Ruscote Avenue at 7.50pm. 

Our officers, including armed officers, stopped a taxi on Horsefair as it was reported it had left the pub and contained weapons, but no weapons were found. 

We have since arrested a 21-year-old man from Banbury on suspicion of assault and possessing an offensive weapon in public. He remains in our custody.

Anyone with concerns about what happened is welcome to speak to a uniformed officer to get in touch. 

We will not tolerate people carrying weapons in our patch so any offenders can expect to be brought to justice.
