Resident  Over the past few weeks there have been several incidents of sheds being burgled by an unknown male offender in order to steal bicycles. Most recently at least 3 incidents have occurred at addresses on South Road, with some suggestion these are taking place early morning time.   These offences are generally taking place within approximately half a mile around Grenfell Park, Maidenhead.  If you see anyone behaving suspiciously around this area or who has gained entry to a residential garden of a neighbour, please call police via 999 (crime in progress)  Also, if you have any information about who the offender is, or know of someone who is always on a different bike or selling bikes you suspect maybe stolen please report online to TVP or via 101 (non emergency number) this may help to identify who the culprit is.   What you can do is -   Purchase a shed / garage alarm, these are reasonable in price from under Ā£20Make it more difficult for anyone to gain entry into your garden such as extra locks on side gates, or trellis on top of wooden fences. Install a camera / doorbell camera either in your shed / garage, or pointing towards the area. Letting neighbours and friends know to be on the look out and making sure they know what to do it the offender gains entry into a garden / shed / garage - call 999Improve the locks and security on garden buildings, most people store expensive bikes or tools etc. yet use little security to prevent entry. Add details of any bikes by registering to immobilise.com - also take photos in case your bike is later stolen, we get various reports of cycle thefts where the victim will not know the brand of bike and just report for example a silver bike was stolen, making  it almost impossible to trace back to the owner if later recovered. Consider hiding a tracker within the bike such as an Air tag or GPS tracker - these can be tracked remotely if stolen. Lastly even if your bike is in the shed / garage, make sure it is securely locked with at least one āDā LOCK, cheap cable locks for example can be cut within a few seconds and are a waste of money. Ideally lock the bike/s to each other or to metal wall mounting / anchor. Please remain vigilant and improve your security, especially around garden buildings containing items of value / bicycles        |
