Here is what your local Wokingham North NHPT have been getting up to over this course of shifts so far. Our areas include Earley/Lower Earley, Woodley, Winnersh and Twyford and its surrounding areas. Your NHPT is here to work with the local community and partners to: - Prevent and reduce crime and disorder, …aiming to make communities safer through an approach that is focussed on visibility, engagement, problem solving and community resilience.
🚲 PC D’Amaro, crewed with PCSO’s Ispas and Sparks hosted a Bike Marking event at Reading University, with the aim of target hardening and deterring would-be bike thieves in the area. We try to arrange as many of these as we can, but if you need your own bike registered before any next event you can do so via The National Cycle Database | BikeRegister
💻 As part of Safer Internet Day 2025, PCSO Elson ran sessions delivered to young adults in the local community who would otherwise not have received this via schools and colleges. The theme this year was “Too Good to be True” and we covered topics including scam awareness and online exploitation.
🦆 During a routine foot patrol, PC Simpson-Holland and PCSO Ispas came across the first signs of Spring (albeit early). Ducks and Ducklings had wandered off the nearby lake and were making their way to the road side. Officers guided them safely to their destination.
🗣️ PCSO’s Ispas and Sparks held a Have Your Say event at Sainsburys, Winnersh – a forum held for the community to engage with us and tell us of your concerns and feedback.
👮 PC’s Young and Bogdanova arrested an outstanding suspect for 22 shopliftings around the area. After originally being dealt with by Reading officers he was taken to court and remanded for 3 weeks awaiting sentencing. As we were unable to interview him during his 3 weeks, he was subsequently rearrested for his outstanding offences as he left court. #boomerang
🗣️ PCSO Brown and PC Bogdanova attended a meeting with the Northern Parish Community Group (NPCG) to discuss and plan for actions around their neighbourhoods.
💂 PCSO’s Leightley, Hobart and Brown, with PC D’Amaro attended Windsor Guard this week, for Changing of the Guard duties.
🚗 PC’s Young and Bogdanova attended Blue Coats School in Sonning to assess reports of drivers jumping red lights. No drivers were seen jumping lights but one driver was issued a ticket for use of a mobile device while driving. Following on from my previous post, PC’s Young and Bogdanova also returned to Piggott School to monitor the flow of traffic after reports and witnessing inconsiderate driving during school pick-up times. One parent was issued a fine for blocking a cycle lane forcing students to cycle into oncoming traffic.
🎵 PC’s Young and Bogdanova visited the monthly meeting of Friends of Reading Male Voice Choir. We discussed safety in all its aspects including crime trends and crime prevention advice.
🚏 A Stop-Search was conducted by PC’s Young and Bogdanova resulting in a positive cannabis seizure at a local bus stop. The grounds of the search was officers witnessing him carrying a grinder. He was dealt with out of court and referred to a drug awareness course.
🏫 PCSO’s Elson and Ispas, crewed with PC D’Amaro, visited Earley St Peters School to provide a show and tell of our role in the community and our kit. The morning also saw them create their own key rings with their own fingerprints. We presented alongside our younger years mascot, PC Ben, to tell them about his daily duties and what he does to help those in need.
🕶️ A number of NHPT officers, including those from the Problem Solving Team, assisted Wokingham Borough Council with this year’s ‘Positive Choices’ event – a 2-day event inviting students from the local schools to participate and engage in scenario-based learning, and hearing from lived experiences from those with a troubled past. This is also where the new Virtual Reality kit was put to use, putting the user in the place of a person in need and bringing the scenario to life. Look out for a detailed post about the 2 days shortly!
