Bracknell Safeguarding and Problem Solving Team Secures Closure Order for Newlands Place Officers from the Thames Valley Police Bracknell Safeguarding and Problem Solving Team have successfully secured a rare closure order for a flat in Newlands Place, Bracknell. The order, which also extends to the communal areas of the entire building, the bike store and the bin shed, has been implemented to protect occupants from being exploited by drug dealers and to address ongoing antisocial behaviour (ASB) that has been affecting other residents and their young families.
On Friday 14 February, officers appeared at Reading Magistrates Court, where the closure order was granted for a period of 3 months until 14 May 2025 under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Disorder Act 2014. The order prohibits anyone from entering the flat and communal areas of the building without lawful authority, providing immediate protection to the residents and helping restore safety to the surrounding neighbourhood. This significant action was taken following concerns over a practice commonly known as cuckooing, where criminals take over the homes of vulnerable people for drug dealing. By securing this order, the team ensures that vulnerable residents are protected while also tackling the wider issues impacting the community. “We are dedicated to tackling cuckooing and improving the quality of life for everyone in our community,” said PC Kerrie McKee from the Bracknell Safeguarding and Problem Solving Team. “This closure order is an essential step in protecting the vulnerable, disrupting criminal behaviour, and ensuring a peaceful living environment for all residents. Our work to combat antisocial behaviour continues, and we remain committed to keeping Bracknell a safe and supportive place to live.”
The closure order represents a decisive step in the team’s ongoing commitment to addressing antisocial behaviour and safeguarding vulnerable individuals. It also highlights the effectiveness of collaboration between Bracknell Local Authority Partners and Safeguarding Services to protect residents and maintain community well-being.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the situation and to contact local authorities should they have any concerns.
