Over recent days, I’ve received numerous enquiries regarding the predicted pony & trap event, over the coming weekend.

Since my previous message to you, colleagues from multiple departments of Thames Valley Police, have been coordinating with local agency counterparts, to ensure a considered response was in place.

This process has been overseen by some of the most senior levels of police leadership, and they have now agreed that an update can be shared:

“We are aware of an upcoming pony and trap event expected to take place around the Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St Peter area this weekend. We understand the concerns of our community and local businesses, and want to reassure you that we are taking proactive steps to minimise any disruption.

 

Thames Valley Police has an extensive policing operation in place and will have a proportionate presence at the event to implement preventative measures and ensure public safety. While pony and trap riding itself is not illegal, our priority is to maintain road safety and minimise any inconvenience to residents, businesses, and road users. Officers will take appropriate action where necessary if criminal offences are identified.

 

At this time, we encourage everyone to continue their usual activities as normal and have not issued advice to close businesses.

We are committed to working with organisers and our partners to manage these events effectively in the future and ensure the safety and well-being of our communities.”

I apologise that I have previously appeared unresponsive on this subject, but I assure you that this has not been my intent. I would particularly impress the point mentioned, above: At this time, we encourage everyone to continue their usual activities as normal and have not issued advice to close businesses.
