Crime Prevention Advice

Attention all residents,

In light of the recent spate of non-dwelling/garage break-ins, we urge everyone to take immediate steps to secure their garages and protect their property (examples: bicycles, tools, motorcycles and e-scooters) Here are some essential tips to enhance your garage security:

  • Keep Your Garage Door Closed: Always ensure your garage door is closed, even when you are at home. An open door is an invitation for thieves
  • Lock All Doors and Windows: Secure all entry points, including side doors and windows
  • Install Security Lights: Motion-sensor lights can deter potential intruders by illuminating the area around your garage
  • Use a Smart Garage Door Opener: If fitted, modern smart openers can alert you if the door is left open and allow you to close it remotely
  • Install Security Cameras or Motion Detectors: Visible cameras can act as a deterrent and provide valuable footage in case of a break-in. Consider installing motion sensors that can be activated after the garage doors are closed and locked.
  • Keep Valuables Out of Sight: Do not leave valuable items in plain view. Store them in locked cabinets or cover them with a tarp
  • Use Garage locks: Locks that bolt into the floor and stop the door from being opened.
  • By following these tips, we can collectively enhance the security of our community and reduce the risk of further break-ins. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the local police service immediately.
