Crime Alert - Keep burglars out

Dear Residents of Cippenham,

In the previous days there has been an increase of burglaries in the area between 16:00 - 21:00 when homes are unattended.

I've listed below some safety tips

- Ensure all doors/ windows are locked

- Invest in a letter box defender

- Invest in a burglar alarm, outside lighting or CCTV

- Check your garden gates and fences for a weak spot where burglars could get in

- All passageways have a strong, lockable, high gate

- Garages have a lock on them

Inside your home:

- Protect your possessions (installing a safe and have property marked)

- Invest in insurance for your valuables

- Bin packaging for expensive products instead of leaving them beside your bins

Distraction burglaries - when someone turns up unannounced with the intention of tricking their way into your home:

- Stop and think. Were you expecting anyone? Look through your spy hole to see who it is, you don't have to open the door.

- Check. If they have an identity card, you can close the door whilst you do this. If there is a company look this up and call their number to confirm - don't call up the number on their card.

Remember: IF IN DOUBT KEEP THEM OUT!

Going away checklist:

- Lock all windows and doors

- Check that side gates, sheds and garages are locked and tools or ladders are not accessible

- Store all house, car and window keys out of sight and away from front doors or windows

- Make your home look occupied by using a timer switch to turn on the lights, a radio or TV at night

- Ask a trusted friend to look after your home

- Invite a neighbour to park their vehicle on your drive while you are away

We will be doing more patrols around Cippenham around this time to deter any crime.

Stay safe!

Kind Regards,
