Advice on protecting valuables

We are warning residents following a series of robberies of jewellery and gold in Slough.

Offenders have followed people to their vehicles, after which they have stolen items from their cars, or from the person themselves.

If out collecting or depositing jewellery, please consider the below:

  • Move with purpose and try to be aware of your surroundings.
  • It only takes a moment for someone to steal an item from your boot as walk to the front of your car. Consider taking anything valuable with you to the front and lock your door once inside.
  • Plan your route, keeping to busy walkways and paths which are more likely to be covered by CCTV if you have valuable items on your person.
  • Make sure your insurance is up to date and keep a written record of all your jewellery. Take photographs for insurance and recovery purposes.
  • Ensure your jewellery is property marked with an appropriate product for use on jewellery. Any jewellery with a unique serial number can be registered for free at www.immobilise.com
  • Finally – and this is so important to remember – if you’re threatened with violence, don’t risk your personal safety. Property can be replaced, you can’t.
  • If you have any information on who is committing crime in your area then please call the Police on 101. Alternatively you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 for 100% anonymity.
