Crime Prevention

Dear Residents,

We have received reports of a suspicious male taking photos of high-value vehicles near Bushy Rd. To help protect your vehicle, please follow the advice below:

1. Lock Your Vehicle

·  Always lock your vehicle, even when parked on your driveway or while refuelling. Double-check that all windows and sunroofs are closed, even after locking.

·  Be aware that it is illegal to leave your vehicle running unattended to de-ice or warm it up in cold weather. Should your vehicle be stolen in this situation, insurance providers will not cover the loss.

·  If your vehicle has wing mirrors that fold automatically when locked, ensure they are folded in. Thieves often target vehicles with unfolded mirrors, as it indicates the vehicle is unlocked.

2. Keep Your Keys Safe

·  Modern vehicles are more secure unless thieves gain access to your key or fob.

·  Store your keys in a safe place, out of sight, and away from the front door.

·  Avoid leaving keys within reach of letterboxes, where they can be stolen using tools like hooks or sticks.

3. Protect Keyless Entry Vehicles

·  Keyless entry vehicles unlock automatically when the fob is within range, even if it’s inside your home. Thieves use devices to mimic the signal, allowing them to unlock and start your car.

·  Keeping your key (and spare key) far from the car when at home.

·  Using a signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag, to store your keys. Test the pouch periodically to ensure it works.

·  Reprogramming keys when purchasing a second-hand vehicle.

·  Turning off the wireless signal on your fob when not in use, if possible.

If you have any information about these incidents, please contact the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre by calling 101 and quoting reference 43240602530 or by reporting online.

Many thanks

Banbury NHPT
