Take precautions when withdrawing money from an ATM or your bank

It is important to take precautions when withdrawing money, to ensure your safety.
Opportunist thieves may be watching ATMs or banks, waiting to take advantage of those who are not fully alert.

- Select ATMs in well-lit, public areas

- Be aware of your surroundings

- Before inserting your card into an ATM, check for any signs of tampering, and report anything suspicious

- If driving to withdraw cash, park in well-lit areas, close to walkways

- Lock your vehicle when you get out, but also when you get back in it

- Remain alert at all times, don't be distracted by your phone

- Have your keys to hand, to avoid having to look through your bag for them when you reach your vehicle

- Conceal any withdrawn money before leaving the bank or the ATM

- If withdrawing large amount of money, ask a trusted friend to go along with you

If there is a crime in progress, dial 999 immediately.
Otherwise, please report via 101 or on our website https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/
