Dear Resident,
Following an investigation, a man has been jailed for causing death by dangerous driving in Oxford. Dariusz Meczynski, aged 51, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison following a hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Monday 9 December. In the same hearing, Meczynski pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving. Just before 9.30am on 20 October 2022, Meczynski was driving an HGV on Oxford Road, Kidlington. He failed to stop at a red light and collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road. Sadly, the pedestrian, a woman who was 74-years-old at the time, sustained fatal injuries and tragically died at the scene. Meczynski was arrested on 20 October and was charged by postal requisition on 6 March 2024.
