Christmas is just around the corner and no doubt many of us will have presents already under the tree. 

This gives a great opportunity for any criminal wanting to make a quick bit of cash if those presents are easily accessible!

* Consider leaving a light on and make your property look occupied even when you're out and it's dark. Plug-in timers are a great way to make it look as though a property is occupied.

* Don't leave valuables or presents in your car, even in the boot - we've seen an increase in people trying their luck with car door handles recently. For those with keyless car entry, consider using a Faraday pouch for your car keys.

* Ensure all windows and doors are locked, and hide your keys.

* Ask a neighbour you trust to look out for your property.
