Thefts of horse boxes in your local area.

Dear residents,

There has been an increase in horse boxes being targeted in your local area where they are either parked in secluded areas, on private properties, or even on driveways. They often break in, steal valuable equipment, or in some cases, take the entire vehicle.

Here are a few tips on how you can help protect your horse box and reduce the likelihood of theft:

  • Park in Well-Lit Areas: Always park your horse box in a well-lit, visible area. If possible, park it close to your home or another area with good foot traffic.
  • Use a Secure Locking System: Invest in quality wheel clamps, hitch locks, and alarm systems for your horse box. Visible security measures can deter thieves from targeting your vehicle.
  • Install CCTV: If you have a driveway or property where your horse box is often stored, consider installing CCTV cameras. They not only provide peace of mind but also act as a deterrent.
  • Keep Items Out of Sight: Never leave valuable items like saddles, tack, or personal belongings in plain view inside the horse box. If you must store items in the box, make sure they are well-hidden.
  • Be Vigilant: Keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in your area, especially around places where horse boxes are commonly parked. If you see anything unusual, report it to your local police immediately.
  • Mark Your Property: Consider engraving your postcode or another identifying mark on the horse box and its contents. This will help with recovery if the item is stolen.
  •

If you see anything suspicious or believe a theft is occurring, please do not hesitate to report it. You can call 101  or report it online using this link Report | Thames Valley Police.  For emergencies, always dial 999.

The more information we can gather, the more we can do to catch those responsible. Your observations and reports are vital in helping us prevent these thefts and identifying suspects.
