Operation in Maidenhead Town Centre - 15/11/24

Yesterday, our officers and PCSOs conducted an operation in Maidenhead Town Centre. We deployed a mix of plain-clothes officers and uniformed PCSOs throughout the town. We had positive engagements with shops and the public, with minimal detected crime until the early afternoon.

Two plain-clothes officers observed two men entering a popular food outlet and leaving with several unpaid items. The men were apprehended just outside the store, visibly shocked. They were arrested, charged, and will appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court within 28 days.

We spoke with the store manager, who confirmed that the men were ‘frequent visitors’. Although individual losses were small, they likely accumulated to significant amounts over time. We also learned that not all incidents had been reported to us.

We would like to draw your attention to the DISC application. Businesses are now beginning to use DISC as a way of reporting crime, communicating directly with police and other retailers, and viewing a gallery of known shoplifters.

So the message is clear – not only is there ‘no such thing as a free lunch’ – but it is getting harder to commit theft in our towns and from our businesses.

If you own a business in RBWM, please check out DISC.
