Christmas Shopping Safety Advice

Hello Resident,

As Christmas is fast approaching and more people will be buying gifts when shopping, I would like to put out some safety advice for members of the public when out shopping.

  • Don’t walk around the high street/ town with your phone in your hand. This is easy for people to grab and run off with.
  • When making payments at the till, make sure no one is looking over your shoulder when entering your pin.
  • To prevent people from knowing your pin, shield your pin with your wallet or purse.
  • Don’t take your money out of your bag/ wallet until you are asked. (Don’t flash a lot of cash!)

  • Use cross body bags for handbags. This stops offenders being able to easily grab and take the bag from you.
  • Use carabine clips to attach all bags together and then hold onto the carbine clip. Or clip all the bags together and then attach the carbine to your cross hand bag.
  • Use key safety chain to attach to your bag for your keys. This securely keeps your keys in place in your bag. This then stops you from losing them or  being stolen.
  • Save your receipts and check your online bank to make sure amounts add up.
  •

  • When putting shopping away keep vigilant to who is around you.
  • If you leave your car to put the trolley back make sure you lock the car before walking away.
  • Don’t leave any shopping bags on show in the back seat of your car if attending other shops. Put bags in the boot.
  • Once in your car, lock your doors as soon as possible. This stops offenders from opening the boot to steal your shopping.
  • I hope this helps in making your trips safer this Christmas.
