Earley Neighbourhood Update…

We asked you to fill out our survey, which you can still fill out.  We have changed some of the questions so take a look here; https://forms.office.com/e/R0RktfjjdS

The Earley Team are based out of Lower Earley Police Station, Rushey Way, Lower Earley.

PC D’Amaro, PCSO Ispas and PCSO Elson are your excellent Earley Team.

Some of the feedback we have received and sorted for you are;

  • Parking Issues, which includes blocking the pavements, obstructing road junctions – ongoing and numerous tickets have been issued. Parking is mainly enforced by Wokingham Council.
  • Car Meets – This is an ongoing issue across all different police forces.  We are actively patrolling the sites they attend and gather intelligence as and when these car meets are taking place. There is a dedicated operation to tackle the car meets. Not all car meets cause an issue though, it is just the small majority that ruin it for the rest of the people attending.
  • E-Scooters & E-Bikes – This is an ongoing issue across all neighbourhood teams. We are issuing warnings and seizing them as and where possible. 4 warnings issued since, and 1 seizure.  You can help us by ensuring this is one thing Santa doesn’t bring this year!
  • IT Theft and Scams – This is an ongoing problem across the whole country. Please remember to report an online scam or fraud to Action Fraud Report a scam to Action Fraud | Action Fraud. If you are wanting to find out more information on how to stay safe online and know more about how to spot a scam, please join us on 20th September 2024, 9am-1pm at The Oakwood Centre, Headley Road, Woodley, where we have organised THE BIG SCAM TALK.
  • Theft from Vehicles and Theft of Vehicles, if you are experiencing any of these issues please report it by phoning 101 or submitting an online submission form Report | Thames Valley Police. If it is happening in front of you, please call 999.
  • Speeding – Please contact your local speed watch team with the locations you are experiencing speeding. The Earley Team are going to organise another day where they go out with the Speed Watch Team.
  • Abandoned Vehicles- This needs reporting to both ourselves and Wokingham Borough Council. Please report it by phoning 101 or submitting an online submission form Report | Thames Valley Police and report it to the council by following this link Report an abandoned vehicle (wokingham.gov.uk)
  • Maiden Place Park and Shops – Ongoing, we will patrol here as and when possible during our shifts, which means it will vary what time of day. We regularly engage with those we come across and deliver words of advice where needed, or often just a friendly chat.  We have also engaged with third parties who have an authority, to introduce their own anti-ASB measures to the area, some of which have already been installed.  It has to be said however, there are never any reports in to us about this despite us knowing this to be an area for ASB.  Without your reports, we cannot formulate an effective strategy, such as persons involved, times, frequency and activities.  You are the eyes and ears for the community just as much as we are and only by working together can we make improvements to benefit us all.
  • Visibility – We are always patrolling between our incidents we are responding to but reports and locations on our survey helps us where to focus and where people are having issues. Remember, if it isn’t reported, we might not know about it.
  • Drug Dealing/Administering Drugs – We advise you to either submit an online submission form with as much information as you can or you can contact us via our neighbour email. We ask for description of people involved, any vehicle index’s/make/model, what time this happens and what day, if it is a regular occurrence or the first time. If you want to remain anonymous you can contact crime stoppers - Giving information anonymously | Crimestoppers (crimestoppers-uk.org). With the intelligence you have provided use we were able to obtain a Drugs Warrant in Earley and we seized approximately 200 cannabis plants, holding an approximate street value of £150,000.
  • Some of the feedback is not a policing responsibility, such as;

  • Parking issues, this is mainly down to the council to deal with. We can only deal with dangerous parking or obstructive parking. If you want to contact the council in regards to parking issues please follow the link; Civil parking enforcement - fines for illegal parking (wokingham.gov.uk)
  • Clear notices at the entrance of the underpass to indicate No scooters or mopeds and motorbikes. – This is down to the local council to issue, please contact your local council.
  • Parking Restrictions – This is down to the local council to change, please contact your local council.
  • Problems with your neighbours making too much noise – please contact Nuisance neighbours (wokingham.gov.uk). We will assist as and where we can but it will be mainly down to the council when it comes to noise complaints.
  • Untaxed Vehicles – Please report it to Report an untaxed vehicle - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  • Unwitnessed Littering – please contact your local council. This is also for overfilled bins, fly tipping or to volunteer to help clean your streets - Street cleaning and litter bins (wokingham.gov.uk)
