Arrests made following disorder and Section 60 order extended – Sandhurst

Dear Resident,

Following an investigation, eight people have been arrested in connection with disorder in Owlsmoor, Sandhurst.

A Section 60 order was enacted in Sandhurst on Saturday (13/4) following reports of disturbance in the area.

Officers investigating made five arrests in connection with an incident on Friday (12/4). Two teenagers and three men were arrested on Saturday (13/4) and have since been released on conditional bail.

A further Section 60 order was authorised from 10.10pm last night (15/4) following further disturbances between groups of people said to be using knives and other weapons. This has now been extended until 10.10pm tomorrow (17/4).

The area covered by the order will be the Owlsmoor and College Town part of Sandhurst, shown on the map below.

It will cover the A3095 Rackstraw Road, A321 Marshall Road, Yorktown Road, College Road and the perimeter of the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.

Officers investigating the second incident of disorder have arrested three further people in connection with the incident. Two teenagers and a man were arrested yesterday (15/4) and have since been released on conditional bail.

Detective Inspector Stuart Streeter said: “These incidents are under ongoing investigations by Thames Valley Police. The public should expect to see an enhanced police presence in the area from both uniformed officers and detectives whilst we conduct our enquiries.

“We have issued a further Section 60 order, put in place in a specific area of Sandhurst following the on-going disorder.

“The order will give our officers extra powers to carry out stop and search activity, and has been enacted for the safety of the public.

“I understand that an order of this nature could cause concern, but while it may sound alarming, enhancing our stop and search powers provides us with another tactic to quickly identify and disrupt those carrying weapons.

“If you are stopped by an officer, please do not be worried as this does not mean that you are in trouble.

“You will see more police officers in the area while the order is in place and we expect to carry out more stop and searches than usual.

“Officers who are out and about are there to reassure you as well as using their powers under Section 60 so please do stop and speak with them about any concerns that you have.”

“I urge any members of the public who have witnessed any part of these incidents, or have video footage such as private CCTV, video doorbell, or dash-cam footage, to please contact TVP and provide us with any information and upload the footage using our dedicated online portal.

“You can contact us by calling 101 or making a report online quoting reference 43240168208.

“Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
