Keyless Theft of cars in Warfield area 8 February

During the night of Thursday 8 February, Whitegrove estate, Warfield was visited by thieves targeting high value cars left accessible outside private homes.

After both front and rear registration plates were stolen from a black BMW 530E M Sport in Yorkshire Place, the offenders then attached them to a grey BMW X5 S Drive Sport, in Swithan Chase, drilling a door lock in order to gain entry, but fleeing after searching through the glove box and cars interior.

A black Porsche Macan was stolen from Cornwall close, and a black BMW X5 XDrive Sport was stolen from Thomas Drive.

All the attacked cars are modern, having keyless type ignition systems, which the offenders have managed to overcome, possibly by using radio scanners to pick up the owner’s key fob signal.

If you heard or saw anything suspicious, have any CCTV, Video Doorbell or Dasham recording of suspects or know anything about these thefts you can report this information to police either  by dialling 101 or using the forces on line reporting portal. If you want to remain anonymous or don’t want to speak to the police you can pass any relevant information via the independent charity Crimestoppers  on 0800 555 111 free of charge.

If you own a car with keyless locks and ignition, to protect it, as well as the basic first step of ensuring the windows have closed and doors locked and alarm has set whenever you leave it, police are now advising that you should consider utilising an overt steering wheel lock.
