Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

NOT A BAD WEEKEND CRIMEWISE !

Launch of new TVP website feature - Your Area:

TVP has updated the force website, to incorporate a new feature allowing members of the public to view information about their local neighbourhood.

Anyone can now search by a town, road name or postcode, to view information such as; contact information for their local Neighbourhood Team, upcoming events and crime data. This was previously held on the national police.uk website

It is under the reporting section – simply type in your postcode in the box on the front page:

https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/

When you look at Crime Stats on line, you need to be cautious and aware that these are taken directly from police computers.  No-one actually looks at them to assess if they really reflect the situation.

For example:  Read these stats, with a note of caution !

Burglary
The Police system records a garage break of ‘integrated garage’ as a ‘burglary dwelling’.  The system also includes burglaries in domestic abuse / family cases, - where named parties enter a property and items go missing.  Shared accommodation, where allegedly items go missing.  Landlord and tenant – where a landlord enters a property for inspection and an allegation is made that items have gone missing.  We also have cases, where it is believed the aggrieved is suffering from mental impairment / dementia.  They report burglaries continually / thefts by carers etc.  Sometimes a member of a family simply moves an item in a house and the owner reports it as a burglary even though there is no evidence of forced entry, only to phone back later to explain.
Re ‘Theft of’ cars, we have cases reported to us, where the owner has forgotten where they parked their car / a family member borrowed it.

These cases remain in the stats and show on the website.  Please remember, these are not proved and charged crimes that have taken place.  These are ‘reported’ crimes.  If a person believes a crime has taken place and phones us, it is recorded, even though later it appears, they may have been mistaken or categorised the crime incorrectly.  Or several people report the same crime.

CRIME

I have attached reference numbers to each crime report. If you live in the vicinity of any of the crimes mentioned and have CCTV or a video doorbell, can you please check the footage. If you have any that might be of interest to the police, can you please make contact with us, quoting reference number given.

Alternatively you can call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or email - www.crimestoppers-uk.org
